Ironing can be a time-consuming and complicated job: you need the right equipment, the right place, and the right settings. If only there was an all-in-one solution… Philips thought so too, and that’s why there’s the All-in-One 8500 Series, a steam iron and ironing board in one. Test Panel tried out the device for a while. What the testers thought of it, you can read in this article.

In collaboration with Philips

Everything you need to iron your entire clothing collection and make it bacteria-free, that’s the Philips All-in-One in a nutshell. Of course, it all starts with the ironing itself. The steam iron has a handy, ergonomic handle, so you can always hold it comfortably. In addition, it weighs half as much as a regular steam iron.

The iron itself has also been well thought out. Thanks to the OptimalTEMP technology, you don’t have to worry about burn marks on your clothes. Descaling is not necessary, because it uses double motors. This technology also ensures an extra powerful steam emission, so you can remove even the most stubborn creases from your clothes.

All-in-One 8500 Series features

The rest of the appliance is designed to make ironing as easy as possible. The integrated ironing board is adjustable: you can lay it down horizontally to iron clothes like on a regular ironing board, or you can turn it vertically to iron your shirts – and everything in between. The detachable base with wheels makes it easy to take the All-in-One with you all over the house.

Just like regular steam irons, the All-in-One not only makes your clothes look great but also keeps them fresh. 99.9 percent of all bacteria on your clothes are killed, so unpleasant odors are a thing of the past, even if your clothes are not machine washable.

So much for the basics. What did the Test Panel think of the Philips All-in-One 8500 Series?

Ease of use

The Philips All-in-One is made for convenience, and the test panel has of course tested this extensively, and with results. “What immediately stands out is the ease of use of this device,” says one of the testers. “The innovative ironing board allows you to iron and steam both horizontally and vertically, a huge plus. It makes ironing difficult garments such as shirts and dresses a lot easier.”

The rest of the test panel can confirm this, not only regarding the ironing board but also the steam iron itself. “I am impressed with the ease of use,” says one tester. “The ergonomic head is considerably lighter than regular irons, making ironing much more comfortable, and less tiring on the arms.”

Something that the testers also mention a lot as a plus is the water reservoir. “The reservoir is over a liter,” says one tester, “so you can iron a lot of clothes without having to walk to the tap in between.” The three different settings – from moderate, to average, to hot – are also explicitly mentioned as an advantage.

Even unpacking and installing the Philips All-in-One is a breeze: “Unpack it, think logically for a moment and then installing it is a piece of cake,” said one of the testers.

A small downside that is mentioned is that the All-in-One is made largely of plastic and that it can therefore wobble a bit. Also, according to the panel, the ironing board could have been a bit longer.

To smooth

Ironing itself was a treat for the testers. “The clothes become perfectly smooth, even delicate fabrics like silk,” says one of the testers. Another tester agrees: “The combination of iron and steamer is really nice. The iron is very light and glides easily over fabrics, even when you are not using the ironing board. For example, curtains or the sofa. It also does a great job of steaming.”

Another tester was also lyrical. “The amount of steam is considerable, it quickly makes your clothes wrinkle-free. Especially the possibility of removing the steam cleaner from the ironing board is handy. You can use it to steam the couch. It makes housework a lot easier. An absolute added value, what a great purchase!”

Appearance

Irons and ironing boards may not be the most beautiful appliances in your home, but the test panel was also very pleased with the appearance of the All-in-One. “The whole thing feels solid and high-quality, and looks very luxurious,” says one of the testers. Another tester adds: “It is a beautiful, futuristic appliance to look at: it scores high on its appearance.” And: “The color combination and the beautiful design are definitely plus points,” concludes another tester.

Part of the design is the foldable design, which also received a lot of approval. “The fact that you can fold the board and therefore store it easily makes it very suitable for smaller spaces,” says one of the testers. Another agrees: “The design is innovative, also because of the wheels underneath; so you can easily move it.”

Conclusion

Ironing is not a favorite chore for many people, but with the Philips All-in-One 8500 Series, it becomes a lot easier. The Review.nl Test Panel is lyrical about the ease of use of the device, both in terms of the movable ironing board and the handy detachable ironing head.

The amount of steam in the three different settings is experienced as a big plus: this makes clothes effortlessly smooth and free of unpleasant odors. The modern appearance is also often mentioned as an advantage by the testers, as is the foldable design for easy storage.

All in all, the testers are very satisfied with the Philips All-in-One. It is therefore not without reason that the device is rated with a 7.7 as an average final score. Or, as one of the testers puts it: “My hatred of ironing is gone, I am absolutely sold!”
